In practice that means one thing: when an essay in the Library recommends a book (for example, the reading list), the link to that book may carry an affiliate tag. If you buy through it, Amazon pays us a small commission. The price you pay does not change.
Three commitments behind every such link. First, we only recommend books we would stand behind without the commission; the annotations tell you honestly what each one is worth and where it falls short. Second, every page that carries affiliate links says so on the page itself. Third, we do not run affiliate links for gear, toys, or shops on this site. Books only.
Beyond that, nothing changes: the essays are free, the only thing we ask of you is your email if you want it, and the only other thing we will ever sell is our own work.
